Elderly Carrick resident targeted in tax refund '˜scam'

Police have issued an alert after fraudsters sent a bogus email to an elderly Carrick resident.

It claims the recipient is entitled to a tax refund and provides a link to click to claim this money.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “This is a scam. There are a number of red flags that raise suspicions, that’s if you know what to look for.”

Police are advising anyone who may be in receipt of one of these emails to visit HMRC’s website and read guidance on recognising genuine email correspondence from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
