‘Excellent’ results at Grammar

More than 60 per cent of entries were awarded either an A*, A or B grade with almost 16 per cent of pupils achieving at least three A grades.

The highest achiever in Year 14 was Elizabeth Brown, formerly of Larne and Inver Primary, with three A*s and one A grade. She will now continue her studies at Trinity Hall College, Cambridge, where she will be studying natural sciences.

Elizabeth’s success was closely followed by Aoife Thornton, formerly of St. MacNissi’s Primary, and Aisling Madden, formerly of Corran Integrated Primary, who were awarded one A* and three As and three A*s respectively.

Other notable achievers include Carla McGookin, with two A*s and one A and Aaron Bell; Luke Cameron; Sara Coulter; Sharon Ross and Sarah Hunter who all received one A* and two As. Amy Beggs; Ellen Esler; Olivia Gillespie; Andrew Gilliland and Bethany McDowell, all with three As, make up the rest of the group who achieved straight A grades.

Further success was seen at AS Level in which Lee Murray and Kirsty McKinty were both awarded four As, the highest grades available at this level.

A further six pupils - Sarah Booth; Judith Cameron; Lauren Cameron; Scott Copeland; Jenna Mulholland and Connor Smyth were awarded three As and one B grade.

Commenting on the results, Jonathan Wylie, principal of Larne Grammar School, said: “I am delighted with these results and congratulate all of our pupils on their success.

“The quality of the A Level results means that the majority of pupils have been accepted to the university course of their choice.

“I would like to wish our Year 14 students all the best as they leave us to commence university or their chosen career. I look forward to hearing of their future successes.”
