Firms told tomind pipes

NI WATER is asking Londonderry businesses to protect infrastructural pipes and prevent leakage and damage this Christmas period.

Des Shields, NI Water’s Head of Leakage stated: “Last year many businesses faced the costly impact of a burst pipe. The damage caused by a burst pipe can often mean closing a business for weeks. For shops and restaurants, closure during the busy Christmas trading period could be devastating.

“We are advising businesses to take the time to ensure pipes are well insulated and know where the stop valve is on the property.

“If a meter is available, check it regularly as a dramatic increase in water usage could be a sign of a leak.

“Estate agents and landlords need to be extra vigilant if they are responsible for empty properties or properties vacated by students during the Christmas holiday period.

“Business owners should also have the name and number of a registered plumper who will attend the property during the holiday period if a burst does occur.”
