Fish kill 'a terrible disaster' says club

Members of Moyola Angling Association have been assessing damage to fish stock following a slurry spillage into a tributary of the river.

The club said in a social media post that a significant stretch of the river at Grange, near Desertmartin, had been affected.

The Northern Ireland Environment Agency was alerted about the incident and is presently carrying out an investigation as to what happened last Thursday.

The Association said 2,659 brown trout, 110 juvenile salmon, as well as adult eels, gudgeon, lamprey and “countless fry” were killed.

In a post on its Facebook page, the Association described it as “a terrible disaster for us”.
