Former police officer charged with causing road death in Tyrone

Elish MacSherry from Brookmount Heights, Omagh, said nothing during the short Omagh Magistrates’ Court hearing, nodding only that she understood the six charges against her.

Watching from the public gallery, along with family and friends, was Mr Mills’ widow, Anne, as District Judge Bernadette Kelly adjourned the case for four weeks until March 8 next after a detective claimed he could connect MacSherry to the charges.

They range from causing the death of Mr Mills, from Glenside, Killyclogher by dangerous driving, to driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

MacSherry is also accused of another charge of dangerous driving on a second road, Clanabogan Road, Omagh, on the same date, failing to remain at the scene of an injury accident, failing to report an injury accident and failing to keep her car at the scene of an injury accident.

Although no details of the tragic fatal crash were given in court, at the time it was reported MacSherry was the driver of a Saab Vector car which was in collision with the Toyota Yaris of Mr Mills on the Dromore Road in the Co Tyrone town on Saturday October 10 last year.

Although rushed to hospital, Mr Mills died from his injuries. MacSerry too was taken to hospital where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries. Later arrested she was released on police bail.
