Free festival in park ranked as best ever

Ranked as one of the best festivals Lurgan has seen, the ‘party in the park’ has been dubbed a massive success by all who joined in.

Organised by the young people of north Lurgan for the whole community of north Lurgan it united young and old with a feast of local talent in a fun party atmosphere.

Held in Lord Lurgan Memorial Park last Saturday, thousands spent the day checking out a wealth of local bands and DJs as well as traditional Irish music.

Kids young and old enjoyed the carnival rides and candy floss, the ice-cream and football tournaments, bouncy castles to bungee runs.

Erin Duffy, project manager of Cooperation Ireland, said the free community festival was a huge success. She praised the hard work of the young people of North Lurgan Youth Leadership Programme for organising such a massive festival.

The youth were selected to take part in the Co-operation Ireland programme, developed to help young people unlock their leadership potential, improve their self-worth and confidence and make the headlines as positive role models in their community.

The concept of the community festival was the idea of the young people who wanted to show their commitment to improving their local area. They have built on the success of last year’s inaugural festival and it clearly illustrates the leadership qualities these young people have honed.

And they certainly deserve great headlines.
