Free film screenings for school pupils

GLENGORMLEY Movie House will be opening its doors to hundreds of local school children free of charge later this month as part of National Schools Film Week (October 15 - 26).

The goal of the world’s largest film festival for schools is to support classroom teaching by providing schools with a powerful experience for their students that links directly to elements of the curriculum - supported by an online library of resources related to individual films and more generic topics.

More than 470,000 students and their teachers attended the festival in 2011, and this year the event will celebrate its 17th birthday with 2,500 screenings at 570 cinemas across the UK.

The Principal of Glengormley Integrated Primary School, Mr Nigel Arnold, added: “I have brought pupils along to Film Week before and already know that it is a beneficial experience, so I decided to bring pupils again this year.

“It is an opportunity to see a film entirely free of charge - a rare thing these days. It is also an opportunity to help the children learn about codes of conduct appropriate to the cinema.”

This year’s programme at the Movie House, Glenwell Road is: Wednesday, October 24 - Dr Seuss’ The Lorax (U); Thursday, October 25 - Brave (PG); Thursday, October 25 - War Horse (12A).
