Freeman praises Remembrance events

Freeman of Lisburn Mr Ivan Davis has praised the Royal British Legion for their recent commemorations to mark Remembrance Day.

“There have been a series of commemorations since July 1 throughout Northern Ireland to mark both the Somme and the Battle of Jutland,” said Mr Davis.

“The Lisburn branch of the Royal British Legion have done Lisburn proud in relation to their contribution.

“The Festival of Remembrance, which was held in the Civic Centre on Friday November 11, in view of a capacity audience, was indeed an outstanding event and all who took part deserve the greatest admiration and gratitude for the way they marked the occasion.

“On Sunday we had the Remembrance parade and service.

“The parade, one of the largest for many years, will be remembered for the many young people taking part, representing many organisations.

“There were also a large number of people paying their own tribute at the cenotaph.

“The weekend of commemoration ended with a really beautiful religious service in Christ Church, conducted by Rev Paul Dundas, assisted by Rev John Pickering and Rev Julie Bell.

“All those involved did Lisburn proud. They represented the very best in their tribute to all who made the supreme sacrifice.”
