Fundraising Family Day for Lighthouse Hostel

LOCAL homeless charity The Lighthouse Hostel will be running a Family Fun Day in the People’s Park, Ballymena on Friday, August 17 from 11am to 3pm to raise funds for working with local homeless.

The Lighthouse Hostel, funded by Supporting People and overseen by Living Rivers Trust, is a temporary homeless facility for homeless men aged 18 to 65.

The Lighthouse use a support process to guide clients into independent living and are using the fun day to raise awareness of homelessness and raise funds to sustain and develop early intervention courses and further support programmes in education and training .

The Lighthouse Hostel recently achieved an Investors in People Award and gained a level 5 in the National Food Hygiene Rating Scheme capping off a productive 10th year of community service under the Living Rivers Church umbrella.

The fun day will consist of bouncy castles, face painting, balloon modelling, games and prizes, BBQ and cake stall.

The NI Fire & Rescue Service and PSNI will also be in attendance with local radio station Q 107 having a live feed for the duration of the event.

A ballot and Fire Side Quiz can also be bought from local shops and cafés.

Mark Forsythe, Manager of the Lighthouse, said: “It is important in these days of economic climate that small local charities are not forgotten as they provide ground level services required in all communities.

“The Lighthouse aims to equip their clients with better life skills, qualifications and employability allowing them the opportunity to become productive participants in their community.”
