Further success for Young Conquerors

THE MEMBERS of Ballymena Young Conquerors Flute Band achieved more success in the recent Flute Band Association Own Choice contest held in the Island Arts Centre, Lisburn on Saturday February 26.

Competing in the Grade 2 section, the band beat off strong challenges from Cahard Flute Band Flute Band (Saintfield) and Churchill (Londonderry) to win the title for the third year in succession.

This brings the conqueror’s wins to a total of six in a row (three NIBA Championships and three FBA titles), the first time this has been done in the history of the band.

The driving force behind the band’s recent success has undoubtedly been conductor Richard Douglas, whose continues hard work and leadership has brought the band to its current level of achievement.

The band’s test piece for the day was “Night on a bare mountain”. Mussorgsky arranged by Mark Douglas. Adjudicator for the contest was John Bryce from Scotland.

Greater challenges await the band later this year when it must return to contesting at Senior Level in the North of Ireland Bands Association Championships, competing against the best bands in Ireland and beyond.

The band is currently busy preparing for its Spring Concert, to be held in the braid art centre on Thursday, April 14, at 7.30pm.
