He said: “I would like to commend the Lord Lieutenant of County Antrim Mrs Christie OBE, the steering group and anyone involved in organising this successful event. And of course, not forgetting the Armed Forces who were celebrated by all those in attendance.

“Mid and East Antrim have now demonstrated that we can deliver an event of this size which brings the whole borough together - Larne, Carrickfergus and Ballymena all acting as one. I will be working to ensure that events of this scope and magnitude can become a regular occurrence in Mid and East Antrim.”

TUV party collegue, Cllr Donna Anderson said she was proud to see the event being hailed as a great success.

“As one of the members of the Armed Forces Day Steering Group from Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, I am glad that such a great occasion was brought to our new borough.

“It is was incredibly important to TUV that the first major event to mark the new council was one that celebrated and thanked our armed forces who serve our nation with distinction. We are thankful for our veterans who served in the past, for the current recruits who are serving across the globe, and for all those who will follow in their footsteps,” she said.
