Southern Regional College is to spend around £90 million on developing three new campuses at Craigavon, Armagh and Banbridge over the next four years, with all buildings due to be ready in 2020.

The Craigavon development will replace the Lurgan and Portadown campuses on a single site at Craigavon Lakes, while the Armagh and Banbridge campuses will be built on the existing sites.

The Armagh building features approximately 12,000 sqm of specialist accommodation across a number of curriculum areas which will facilitate the subjects currently offered with the option for further provision.

Said a spokesperson for SRC, “The building is being designed to facilitate world class professional and technical education and training. A key feature of all new campuses is the provision of innovation hubs through which students will engage with business and industry in real world industrial projects and challenges.

“The new campus will also include learning facilities required for learning at degree and postgraduate levels. This includes the provision of state-of-the-art Learning Resource Centres, integrated student social areas and learning support services.”

Teaching during the construction phase will be relocated to the existing campus at Lisanally Road with plans underway to secure an additional education facility off the Killylea Road in Armagh.

A public consultation is to be held in the Study Hall at Lonsdale building, College Hill, Armagh on Monday, June 27 between 10am to 9pm.

In addition, an information exhibit for the proposals will also be maintained at the reception area of SRC’s Armagh campus in order to facilitate those who cannot attend the exhibition event. This will be in place from June 28- July 14. It will allow those visiting the exhibit to leave comments on the proposals for the design team’s consideration.

The information exhibit will also be available on the SRC website at www.src.ac.uk between these dates along with the ability to provide comment to [email protected].
