Helen’s brushstrokes on show at the Burnavon

DESERTMARTIN artist Helen Barfoot’s paintings shine with creativity, literally, and you can see for yourself in a new exhibition currently running at the Burnavon.

Helen has taken the medieval art of painting on glass and reinvented it for the twentieth century by using Lucite, a type of Perspex. The mirror surface of the Perspex gives a wonderful depth and vibrancy of colour that make her work glow from within with translucent light.

From Desertmartin, Helen’s work belies the short eighteen months that she has been painting, combining mastery of technique with a delicate touch to create works from a master’s hand.

Combined with the light brushstrokes and rich jewel like colours are an interesting subject choice of faces.

Helen explained: “I don’t really have anyone in mind when I create a portrait. This way rather than being one person, the portrait can be whoever the viewer wants them to be.”

Helen Barfoot’s exhibition, ‘Colour Studies on Lucite’ can be viewed in the upstairs exhibition area of the Burnavon until Friday, November 23, and is free to view.

The Burnavon is open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday, as well as one hour before scheduled theatre performances.
