PREGNANT women are being invited to attend an information meeting at Altnagelvin tomorrow, Thursday, September 30.

The Western Health and Social Care Trust (WHSCT) are holding an interactive morning for pregnant women on Thursday, September 30, 2010 from 9am-12noon at the Parentcraft Room at Altnagelvin Hospital.

The event was organised to coincide with National Pregnancy month to provide expert health information and tips for pregnant women.

Hosting the event, Cathy Grieves Western Trust Parentcraft Midwife said: “As part of Pregnancy Health month we want to give women an opportunity to ask questions relating to their health during pregnancy.

“This provides pregnant women with the peace of mind that they are doing all that they can to ensure their babies are as healthy as possible.”

Reflecting on the questions pregnant women pose Cathy continued: “Pregnant women often feel unsure about whether they are eating the right foods, getting enough sleep or keeping relaxed during their pregnancy.

“They often worry about some of the lesser known physical changes experiences when expecting a baby so this is a great opportunity to speak to experienced staff about anything they are unsure of or have concerns about.

“Women will be able to meet the Parentcraft Team, Breastfeeding advisors and Surestart all under the one roof to provide valuable advice and information. Women attending will also get the opportunity to sample some reflexology which is a new service the Trust is introducing for pregnant women from 6 October 2010 from the Midwifery Led Unit.”

Western Trust Midwives at Altnagelvin Hospital encourage all women to attend antenatal classes in their area. Pregnant women are entitled time out of work to attend these classes.

For further information and advice contact the Western Trust’s Parentcraft clinic at Altnagelvin Hospital or attend the opening morning on Thursday, September 30, 2010.
