It also received an excellent score of 7.35 points out of 8 points in the side pole test, demonstrating solid passenger protection in the event of a more severe side collision.

In Child Protection, the Spark also scored maximum points in the Child Restraint System dynamic performance tests, which evaluate children’s safety in various types of crashes. Standard safety equipment in the Chevrolet Spark includes driver, front passenger, side and curtain air bags. Other safety features include three-point seatbelts for all five seating positions, ISOFIX rear child-seat fixings and an inbuilt pedestrian protection system, designed to protect occupants head from hitting hard points of the car's body in the event of a collision.

Electronic Stability Control (ESC), the anti-skid technology, is available as an option on all Spark trim levels and comes as standard on the LT. ESC works by selectively braking individual wheels automatically without any intervention by the driver which stops the vehicle from spinning when braking.
