Jail for man who breached ASBO

A MAN who is banned from Portrush after being placed on an Anti Social Behaviour Order, has been jailed for five months.

Christopher McCrory (23) of Ferryquay Place in Coleraine appeared at North Antrim Magistrates’ Court on Monday from Maghaberry Prison.

He is charged with a number of offences following an incident in Portrush on February 9, last year at 4.35am.

Court heard that police were called to the defendant’s mother’s address in Dhu Varren, following reports that he was present. The conditions of McCrory’s ASBO prevent him from being in the Dhu Varren area.

When police called, McCrory answered the door he stuck out at officers as he was being arrested.

He attempted to kiss one of the female officers, kicking out and spitting as police led him to the police car.

McCrory headbutted the window of the police car, before being restrained.

At Coleraine police station, McCrory blocked the toilet in his cell causing it to flood.

McCrory’s solicitor, Mr Murphy, told the court that his client had consumed alcohol on the night in question. He said that since the incident he had telephoned the officers and apologised for his behaviour.

Jailing McCrory for five months, District Judge, Richard Wilson, said he would give him credit for his guilty plea, but added: “I will give you no credit for your stupidity.”
