Kellswater on a Greek Odyssey

Kellswater Flute Band have returned from the Greek Island of Crete where they took part in a number of Concerts over a six day period.

The Band’s performances were very well received by ex-pats and locals and were featured on Cretan television.

In recent years, the band has truly stepped up a gear from being a traditional marching band into one of the most prominent concert flute ensembles in Northern Ireland.

As a result, Greek audiences were treated to a varied programme of British and American military marches, film soundtracks and well known Northern Irish pieces such as the Londonderry Air and The Green Glens of Antrim.

Soloists from the Band performed on stage, as did the drum corps, with an eye catching routine to a New Colonial, Irish Jigs, the hugely popular Killaloe medley and other tunes showcasing the Ulster Cultural scene abroad.

Dancers and vocalists from within Kellswater’s ranks added another dimension to the 90 minute show and the Band were joined in their final concert by a Choir from Ethniko Otheio, Crete.

The tour was planned over an 18 month period and was scheduled to allow the Band to take part in their traditional Loyal Order duties in Ballymena on July 12 and Scarva on July 13.
