Knitting group making a case for helping others

A knitting group based at The Salvation Army shop on Broughshane Street are hoping local residents and businesses will help fill the pencil cases they’re making for the needy.

Shop manageress Doreen Armstrong runs the group which has over 100 members who are currently knitting pencil cases for charities or for distribution to children by Missionaries in Africa, the Phillipines, Uganda, and Moldova.

She said: “As it is a group and not a charity, I have to self fund it as I like to supply wool etc. to the knitters as some of the ladies live in folds.

“Unfortunately, the pencil cases are no use empty, so this is where I am asking for help from businesses or the general public.”

Doreen would welcome donations of pencils, rubbers, sharpeners, short rulers, pens, colouring pencils etc., or a donation to help purchase them.

Anyone who would like to donate wool or any knitters who would like to help by picking up a pattern can call into the Salvation Army shop.

If you can help in any way with the project, no matter how small, Doreen can be contacted on 25655233 or 07751620473. Or, you can find out more on Facebook www.facebook.com/nini.bryce
