Look who dined in Molly’s – Liverpool’s head of coaching

WHEN staunch Liverpool supporter Alan Gault went out for a meal with his wife in a Ballymoney restaurant little did he realise that his night would end with an unexpected conversation with one of Anfield’s leading coaches.

The eagle-eyed fan of ‘The Reds’ thought he recognised the figure sitting near to him in Molly’s and it wasn’t long before he found out just who had graced the popular restaurant – Rodolfo Borrell, head of Liverpool’s Coaching Academy since 2009.

The evening ended with pictures taken, a cherished autograph secured and something for Alan and his wife, Yvonne, to talk about for many years to come.

Sammy Mullan, owner of Molly’s, which has just been awarded a Trip Advisor certificate of excellence for good food, said he was unaware of the presence of such a sporting star, but was delighted that he had chosen his restaurant.

As for Alan, a Civil Servant who works in Coleraine, the meal was the last thing on his mind.

“I was over the moon to talk to Rodolfo Borrell and it’s something I’ll always remember,” he said.

The Spaniard began his time with the Reds working as U18 coach and then U21 manager before taking up his current role in November 2012.

Brought to the club by Rafa Benitez, Rodolfo arrived on Merseyside with a reputation for having worked with and nurtured some of Europe’s finest talents.
