Loving Banbridge grandmother passes away

Laura was the wife of the late John Joseph McPolin, an ex-RUC officer who passed away on January 3, 2011.

An ex-Franklin’s worker, Laura was born in Banbridge in 1933 and was the youngest child of Mr and Mrs John Mitchell, Kenlis Court.

She was always actively involved in church, attending Sunday School and Girl Guides and Rangers at Holy Trinity Parish Church.

At the age of 16, she met her husband John, whom she married in 1956 and they had two children, daughter Denise and son Brinley.

Laura was a devoted and loving mother, who was renowned for her gentle, caring and kind nature. She was also a much adored grandmother to Claire, who is now a consultant surgeon, Emma and Megan.

During John’s working life as an RUC Officer, the family lived in Armagh and Dundonald, ultimately settling back in Banbridge, where Laura worked in Warner’s of Dromore and then Franklin’s, Banbridge.

Laura was described as bearing her recent illness with great patience and courage, never complaining and always considering others, during a time in which her faith was of great comfort.

Laura is survived by her children, daughter-in-law Hilary and grandchildren Claire, Emma and Megan.

Her funeral took place following a service of thanksgiving at Holy Trinity Parish Church, the Ven. R. West officiating.

The committal took place privately at the New Cemetery. William Bell, Banbridge was the funeral director.
