Mayor’s Coca-Cola bursary scheme now open

The popular Lisburn Mayor’s Annual Bursary Scheme aimed at young residents of the area and funded by Coca-Cola is now open for applications.

Those interested in applying must be aged between 14 and 21 on April 1 2014. In terms of applications it is expected that the opportunities being supported would not normally be available at a local level; and will improve individual performance and personal development in the applicant’s chosen field.

Completed application forms must be returned to the Mayor’s Secretary by 5pm on Friday, May 30.

The Mayor of Lisburn, Councillor Margaret Tolerton, speaking about the Scheme, said: “I am delighted that once again Coca Cola is supporting this bursary competition which offers financial assistance to young people wishing to pursue courses or projects. I would encourage our young people to apply to the scheme as it provides excellent opportunities in the areas of arts, sport and community service development.

“The judging panel hopes to support a wide range of applications and I am looking forward to reading about all the good work of our young people and how their chosen experience can enhance their personal development.

“Through sport and the arts over the years Lisburn has produced many highly talented individuals and the Council would be delighted if through this scheme we could offer support to a young athlete, aspiring coach or arts performer to take their interest and skill to a whole new level.

“The number of volunteers within Lisburn is phenomenal and I am pleased that more and more young people give up their time on a regular basis to help others either here in Northern Ireland or further afield. This selflessness is very beneficial to both the volunteer and the communities they are helping; and is something that the Bursary Scheme hopes to assist with,” she concluded.

Through this scheme, the Council and Coca-Cola hope to support life-changing opportunities for the young people of the City. Young people are the future of Lisburn and it is great to be able to support them as they pursue their ambition and strive to become the best in the sport they play, the arts they excel at and the community they work for.

Nicci Gregg, Community Investment Manager, Coca-Cola HBC Northern Ireland added: “As a company with a long standing heritage in the Lisburn area, we are passionate about making a real difference to the lives of those living locally. “It is a great pleasure to support this fantastic initiative once again and I look forward to seeing it make a positive change in the lives of those who will benefit.”

The annual Mayor’s Bursary Scheme is funded by Coca-Cola HBC Northern Ireland.
