McQuillan calls for action after attacks

George Duddy, mayor of Coleraine, outside his house on Tuesday morning after the walls were daubed with graffiti overnight

Graffiti was daubed at the home of the Mayor of Coleraine, Councillor George Duddy, in one of the incidents on Monday night. A Union flag was also removed from the front of his house in the Quilly Road area.

Police also reported that a corrosive liquid had been poured over a car parked in the Granary Drive area. Substantial damage was caused to the paintwork of the car as a result.

Graffiti was also spray painted on the front of a house in the Drumaquill Road area.

Police are investigating a link between the three incidents and are treating all three as a hate crime.

Mr McQuillan told the Coleraine Time he believes the police know who is behind the attacks.

“I do believe that the police know who is carrying out these attacks,” he said.

“They have to take action and give the people confidence in them.”

Police would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incidents or anyone with any information to contact them at Coleraine Police Station on the non-emergency number, 101.
