And the young ring star’s desire to help the local community was praised by DUP Assemblyman, Paul Frew.

Mr. Frew explained: “ Alan came to me after I asked a question to the DCAL Minister on financial support for Mixed Martial Arts on the floor of the Assembly after the Ballymena-born rising star won his Lonsdale belt .

“He wanted to discuss the anti social behaviour issue in the constituency and explore how someone like him could influence young people away from activities that make members of the community frightened.”

Alan is a rising star in the world of Mixed Martial Arts.

Aged only 23 he has already had 17 and 22 amateur and professional bouts respectively, starting the sport when only 16.

His target is to defend his title and fight for the European Title as well.

Alan Philpott said: “ Paul has been very supportive of the sport in general and myself in particular, mentioning my achievements on the floor of the Northern Ireland Assembly when he was seeking funding for the sport .

“I would love to engage with Schools in the area to discuss my story growing up and to give something back to my community by way of coaching and inspiring young people to have a focus and goals in life.

“Paul has worked hard to reduce levels of anti social behaviour and he has agreed to write to all Post primary Schools in the area to offer my services and time to speak to young people about the dangers of getting involved in anti social behaviour and to deliver a message of inspiration to them..”
