Moyle Council puts Ballycastle street parking in spotlight

Councillors wee told Glentaisie was built in the 1950s and Mayo Drive in the 1970s but there is ‘inadequate parking’ for residents.

Points discussed by councillors included narrow streets and difficulty for emergency services getting through.

* A petition was received by Moyle Council from residents of Carneil Park, Waterfoot, objecting to plans to build houses in the area.

* Moyle Council has been awarded the 2013 Blue Flag for Ballycastle Marina and Resort Seaside Award for Ballycastle Beach and Rural Seaside Award for Waterfoot.

* Efforts to improve the understanding between young people and old people in Bushmills through a cooking event have been backed by Moyle Council through a £250 grant.

A Council report said: ‘Some elderly people in Bushmills have felt intimidated by the presence of young people ‘hanging around’ in the streets, as a result branding many of them ‘troublemakers’ (and some of the young people see the elderly as ‘busybodies’).

Now 15 young people will cook for the elderly people in the Parish Centre on August 21 and there will be Ulster Scots music and poetry to ‘celebrate the joint heritage of the two generations’.

* Moyle Council has given a £400 grant towards a ‘Knowing Me Knowing You’ initiative being held by Glenariff Improvement Group through their Luncheon Club. The project will focus on the sharing of stories about culture and traditions from the African, Indian and Irish cultures.
