The bilingual publication has been produced by detectives from Serious Crime Branch investigating the murder of Mr Cheung outside Randalstown in January.

DCI Eamonn Corrigan, who heads up the murder investigation, said: “Our enquiries brought us into close contact with the local Chinese community, those who operate businesses and with the Chinese Welfare Association.

“One of the issues which became apparent was a perception by the Chinese business community that they were at greater risk than others in the community of being attacked. This raises issues for all of us, in terms of how we engage with harder to reach groups and enable them to do as much as possible to prevent themselves from becoming victims of crime and reducing the fear of crime.”

DI John Caldwell said: “One quick and simple solution was our idea to print a small flyer which contains personal security advice. We have provided these to the Chinese business community who were so appreciative of our efforts that they invited us to their recent Chinese New Year celebrations in Belfast.”

Three men have been charged with Nelson Cheung’s murder and face a series of other charges including attempted murder, robbery, attempted robbery and burglary. A 32-year-old woman has been charged with perverting the course of justice and handling stolen goods.

Two teenagers arrested in the early stages of the investigation were released pending a report to the PPS.
