National Food Collection appeal

An appeal has been made for contributions to the National Food Collection appeal.

It will take place in Londonderry on tomorrow, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, June 2 to 4 inclusive at Tesco branches at Strand Road and at Lisnagelvin.

The aim of the collection is to provide much-needed support to groups helping the needy in the city, including the Northland Centre, Damien House, the Methodist City Mission, Clarendon Shelter, Foyle Valley Women’s Centre and the Cookie Company.

Making the appeal, Tesco Community champion Irene Hewitt, said: “Every customer can make a difference to this appeal. This bi-annual collection, which we also do at Christmas, is a vital source of aid for people in our city who are in need.

“Last year in the three day appeal we collected over 3,000 meals. The company that distributes the good, Fair Share, take the products we get given to us and it is distributed as a meal. They make up meals for the recipients.

“We know that the people of Londonderry are very generous and we can rely on them to beat our total last year and we are indebted to all the local volunteers who support us.”
