National Parents Week in Dunmurry

The Colin Neighbourhood Partnership teamed up with local community and voluntary organisations in the area to deliver Parents Week in Colin which was welcomed by local parents wondering how to keep their little one’s minds and hands busy during the mid-term break.

Thousands of local people took part in events including a Halloween Parade and Family Fright Night, a food and craft market at Colin Allotments, spooky storytelling, origami workshops, family fun days, pumpkin carving, family cookery classes and science workshops.

Speaking of Parents Week in Colin, joint organiser John Paul Russell of Colin Neighbourhood Partnership, said: “We are delighted at how well Parents Week in Colin went this year.

“We teamed up with Colin Sure Start, Libraries NI, SEHSCT, and Footprints Women’s Centre to deliver a bumper programme of activities for local families and the feedback from the community has been great.

“Our Halloween event at Cloona House was probably our biggest yet with thousands of people all getting dressed up and getting into the ‘spirit’ of it all.

“The Family Fun Days for babies and toddlers went very well with lots of mums and dads getting the opportunity to meet other parents and kids in community centres throughout the area for an enjoyable morning of activities.

“New to the programme this year were a number of Spooky Cookery Classes for families at the Colin Allotments and here parents and kids learnt how to make some Halloween themed treats including witches fingers and eyeball pasta.”
