New PCSP initiative aims to discourage theft and burglary

The ‘Newtownabbey Secured’ initiative, led by Antrim and Newtownabbey Policing and Community Safety Partnership, is a follow on from a project delivered across the Antrim borough in August 2014 and is designed to discourage theft and domestic burglary.

Every household in Newtownabbey will receive a security pack with advice on how to secure their property and equipment to security mark valuable possessions within the home.

The aim is to provide support and avoid the likelihood of any resident becoming a victim of crime by making it difficult for criminals to prey on those living in the Newtownabbey area. The security packs help police to target criminals operating in the area, as stolen property can be traced back to the household when marked and this information can be presented in court as evidence for prosecution.

Chairperson of Antrim and Newtownabbey Policing and Community Safety Partnership, Councillor Linda Clarke commented: “Domestic burglary figures have been rising in recent times and this initiative aims to help residents secure their property and give them peace of mind. No resident should have to experience the heartache of becoming a victim of crime and I would encourage everyone to take some simple measures to secure your home and possessions.”
