NHS retireetalks on aliensand poems

THE speaker at the September meeting of the Londonderry branch of the National Health Service retirment fellowship was Lisa McMenamin, invasive species officer with Derry City Council and Strabane District Council.

Ms McMenamin gave a very interesting talk on the rare red squirrels, which are slowly starting to repopulate our woodlands after they were nearly wiped out by the squirrel pox virus last year.

Grey squirrels are carriers of the disease, showing few of the symptoms themselves, but once infected a red squirrel will succumb within around fourteen days.
