North Coast Association enjoy their Belfast tour

LAST week members of the North Coast Association of the National Trust spent a rewarding day exploring the changes to some of Belfast's most familiar institutions.

First stop was the magnificently refurbished City Hall, the Victorian masterpiece in the heart of the city.

Following coffee in the newly-introduced caf, members were given a guided tour of the interior with its lavish use of marble, its murals, stained glass windows and memorials to the great. Particularly noteworthy were the grand staircase, reception room and massive Great Hall.

Members were then joined by Nolaig, an excellent Blue Badge guide, who took the coach through the Titanic Centre and the revitalised centre of Belfast, before showing the party the now famous murals, legacy of the Troubles.

The day ended at the Ulster Museum, newly transformed with an Award-winning extension.

After lunch in the new caf, members were given a talk on the museum, before exploring for themselves the wide range of exhibits, including the materials from the Girona shipwreck, the Bann Disc and ten impressive art galleries.
