Oliver Transport Services scoop 'Irish Haulier of the Year' award

A COLERAINE firm has been named Irish Haulier of the Year, at the annual Export and Freight Transport Awards.

Oliver Transport Services Limited was presented with the the award, sponsored by P&0 Irish Sea, at a glittering ceremony at the Ramada Hotel in Belfast.

Like all transport operators, Oliver Transport Services has had to face the challenges of the economic downturn head on, and the judging panel noted this.

The judges were also impressed by the fact that although the company primarily relied on the construction industry for its business, it explored and established alternative markets with the help of a loyal workforce willing to adapt to change.

Today, the company focuses its efforts on long term partners looking for a reliable and affordable logistics service. Turnover has increased by 25%, necessitating additional tractor units and trailers including ejector trailers, ecoliners, tautliners, tippers, tanks and fridges.

The company has also diversified into new markets, most notably waste management with new contracts for the first time in the public sector.

In recent times, it has established new custom built workshops, enabling it to offer a total in-house maintenance package including, MOT preparation, brake testing and wheel alignment.

These facilities are also available to third parties and this is an area for which, with the introduction of Own Account Licensing, the company can foresee increased demand.

Earlier this year, the administrative staff moved into larger accommodation on the company’s Ballycastle Road site with updated telecommunication and IT facilities.
