On track for a shuttle bus service to station

Translink are looking into the viability of that option, Brenda Hale MLA revealed, following a meeting with DRD Minister Michelle McIlveen, Transport NI and Translink officials.

Parents had raised concerns about their children having to walk down the increasingly busy Station Road to catch the train to school.

According to Mrs Hale, children already holding a bus or train pass would be able to access the proposed bus service each morning for the 0813 train service to Belfast and again in the afternoon following the 1603 arrival.

Mrs Hale also revealed other plans for the area, as she aims to improve passenger safety.

She said: “I was pleased to welcome the Regional Development Minister Michelle McIlveen to Moira recently.

“I have been working with the current and previous DRD Minister’s to ensure passenger safety at Moira Railway Station is prioritised and I was successful in getting the footway widened and the street lighting improved in the locality.

“TransportNI are currently considering widening another section of the footway on the Moira side of the Bridge.

“I am hopeful the work on this will commence soon, in conjunction with Translink proposed plans to extend the Park and Ride provision for another 400 cars with access and exits from the A26 Glenavy Road.”
