One hit runners go the extra mile for charity

The local team recently handed over the proceeds from their marathon effort to Moira Shaw, a volunteer fundraiser with the charity.

Together, the team of runners managed to raise over £1,500 for the charity.

Erin, spokesperson for the running group, explained: “We decided to take part in the Belfast City Marathon Relay event this year to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

“It is a cause very close to our hearts and we wanted to raise the awareness of dementia and how we can help and support families affected by this devastating disease.

“The One Hit Runners would like to thank everyone for their generous donations, and in particular Hugh O’Loughlin who raised a substantial amount of money during the fundraising campaign.”

The Alzheimer’s Society community fundraiser for the Mid Ulster Area, Moira Shaw, thanked Hugh and Erin at the presentation of their cheque for £1509.65. Thanking them for their support, Moira said: “The Alzheimer’s Society would not be able to continue its vital work to support and signpost people affected by dementia unless it had the support of individuals such as the One Hit Runners and Hugh O’Loughlin.”

Alzheimer’s Society supports people to live well with dementia today and funds research to find a cure for tomorrow.
