Outdoor gyms at 3 sites

So well are they going down with citizens that elected members are keen for Council officers to identify further funding and key locations for more of the alfresco keep fit equipment.

A Council committee last week approved an officer recommendation aimed at enhancing the local provision, currently located at three sites, which required a total of over £75,000 to put in place.

Rural Development cash of £31,794 delivered the first outdoor gym to Cargan, while Public Health Agency funding of £15k and £25,796, respectively, placed gyms in The People’s Park and at ecos.

Councillors were also informed that outdoor gyms, which are aimed at encouraging more people to engage in physical activity, are suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels, and that no previous experience or instruction is required.
