SDLP Assembly Member John Dallat has urged the Causeway Coast and Glens Council to ‘seize the opportunity’ following Minister Durkan’s annoucement on the Northern Area Plan.

The MLA said: “This plan presents opportunities across the region and not just in the bigger towns to create sustainable development which will enhance the local areas and secure their future as vibrant communities.

“Given the present precarious state of the Assembly I am delighted that the Minister has taken the bold stop of publishing the report so that it does not become a victim of the possible collapse of the political institutions.

“I have no doubt that the new Area Plan will receive a widespread welcome from many people including those who have a particular interest in the protection of the environment as well as those seeking to invest in new businesses and not least tourism.

“The challenge is now over to the new Causeway Coast and Glens Council to maximise the potential benefits that will flow from this plan provided all parties are pulling in the same direction and working as a team to ensure that the area they are responsible for moves forward with a clear focus on the need to provide certainty on future development.”
