Plea for drivers to slow down after dog killed in hit and run

In tears, Victoria Thompson said she was very distressed after her family pet Bobby was found ‘mutilated’ on Lurgan’s Portadown Road.

Victoria, who lives in Hillcrest, said she had just let Bobby out, however, he was never to return.

“They have built a new path from Hillcrest to the Portadown Road and he must have went down there,” she told the ‘MAIL’.

“He was not just hit, he was mutilated,” said Victoria.

The mother of two said she would be forever grateful to dog lover Shannon Dando from Lurgan who sent in search of little Bobby and found him across the road from Eurospar after hours of searching.

“She wrapped him up in a blanket and took him to the vet but he was already dead,” said Victoria who added that she is receiving her pet Bobby’s ashes on Wednesday.

Bobby was a tricolour Border Collie with black white and tan markings.

“I got him from a rescue shelter and I have had him for 11 years.

“He slept beside me every night and he looked after me when I had depression.

“He was great with my children,” she added.

She said her two year old little girl and six month old boy will miss him.

And she appealed for a gate to be erected at the new pathway to the Portadown Road.

“This is a family estate with a lot of young children,” said the 30-year-old mum.

“With the speed those cars drive at down the Portadown Road it is only a matter of time before a child is killed,” she said.

“I think drivers should slow down. It is unbelievable the speed they drive on that road.

“I am absolutely distraught,” she said.

And she added that the Good Samaritan who found Bobby said she was appalled at the state he was in. “She went out of her way to help look for Bobby and she was very distressed at how she found him. It was very good of her to bring him to the vet.

“It has been so upsetting,” she said.
