Detective Chief Inspector Colin Gillis said: “This was a very successful search which has resulted in the seizure of a substantial amount of cannabis plants. The seizure will prevent this cannabis from filtering onto our streets and becoming part of the illegal drug trade.

“Taking these drugs out of circulation is further proof of our commitment to tackle the concerns of the local community and address the issues that matter to them.”

He urged anyone with information about the cultivation or sale of cannabis should contact police by calling 0845 600 8000, alternatively information about crime can be passed anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.

And the police action has been praised by local councillors.

Cllr Paul Stewart, who is a member of the local DPP, said the city was ‘a safer and better place’ following the seizure.

“I would like to congratulate the PSNI on this very successful operation,” he said. “These drugs could have ended up in young people’s hands and that is not good for our younger generation. I have no doubt that Lisburn city is a safer and better place with these drugs off our streets.”

Lagan Valley DUP Assembly candidate, Councillor Jonathan Craig, also congratulated the police.

He said: “It is vital that we take drugs off our streets to provide a safer and cleaner environment for our youth.”
