£2.6m Lurgan Hospital upgrade praised

The redevelopment was completed in four phases over two years.

One of the major works was a new fire evacuation bed lift which is visible from the outside of the building.

The work also included the refurbishment of wards and the dining room; environmental improvements; replacement of windows and external redecoration plus a three storey extension to the entrance.

External improvements to the site including resurfacing and an additional 30 car parking spaces.

In a statement to the Mail, Sinn Fein praised the recent investment and revamped facilities.

This followed a visit by Upper Bann MLA John O’Dowd and party colleagues from Craigavon council.

The Sinn Féin Assembly Member, accompanied by Councillors Mairead O’Dowd, Noel McGeown, and Paul Duffy, met with representatives from Trust before touring the newly upgraded facility.

The MLA said: “The expenditure of over a £2.6m pounds on Lurgan Hospital is a worthwhile investment in the delivery of future health provision for those user groups that benefit from this facility. The upgrading of this resource, at the heart of the community, allows patients to access services while maintaining the independence of remaining in their own homes.”

Cllr. Mairead O Dowd said: “On behalf of Sinn Féin I would like to thank the Southern Health and Social Care Trust for facilitating our visit and to congratulate them on the range of out-patient and in-patient services they deliver from Lurgan Hospital. The recent investment has modernised services and made them more accessible for both patients and their families.”
