A joint statement from the charity partners read: “We are looking for outgoing individuals who would like to interact with the general public during this fantastic event and assist us with bucket collections.

“If you can spare two hours of your time at any point over the four days it would be greatly appreciated by the five charities.

“Please contact Nicola Kelly on 07557 458700 or email [email protected].”

It is the third time that Belfast has hosted the Tall Ships races, with Sailability having showcased its own fleet in 2009. This year, BLS will be demonstrating their popular Hansa dinghies and two-seater kayaks in Clarendon Dock, enabling members of the public to see how safe, versatile and enjoyable these activities are for people with disability.

Christine Harper from BLS said: “Sailability has its base at Carrickfergus, and the RNLI and the Sea Cadets have branches in Carrick and so the town will be very well represented.”
