Save the Roddens campaign steps up a gear

The online petition on Facebook page ‘Save the Roddens’ reads “The Roddens Care Home Ballymoney has played an instrumental role for decades now in caring for the most vulnerable in society.

“Highly trained staff have offered first class residential care, step down beds, respite and recuperation for the people of Ballymoney and beyond, easing the burden on our already overstretched hospitals and domiciliary care teams.

“If this home closes it will have a detrimental impact on our elderly.

“By signing this petition we are appealing to the Northern Trust and the Health Minister to rescind this decision indefinitely.”

Deputy Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Cllr Darryl Wilson from Ballymoney, organised a meeting for relatives of people in The Roddens last night (Monday) to discuss future plans.

And BBC Radio Ulster’s Kerry McLean has also thrown her support behind The Roddens.

She posted on the Facebook page: “I really hope something can be done to Save The Roddens. I volunteered in there after school when I was a kid and was blown away by how much care, attention and time the staff spent with all the residents.

“Call me old fashioned but I always believed the plan was that we should look after and protect our older and most vulnerable members of society, not cut costs and corners at their expense.....

“It’s such a happy home for so many - it would be sheer cruelty to take it away!”
