Seeing double for Red Cross

THE Red Cross in Northern Ireland is hoping that 2012 will see it double the success of its annual fundraising raffle – despite the recession.

Pictured above are Karen and Claire Gibson, identical twin artists who together make up Red Earth Designs, at work on an abstract design in porcelain and copper carbonate.

The piece will form part of an original artwork which they have donated to support the annual Red Cross raffle in aid of the charity’s local services to support vulnerable people in crisis. Other prizes include a weekend at the Merchant Hotel, Belfast, sponsored by Donnelly & Taggart and a trip for two to Glasgow courtesy of Holiday Inn and Stena Line.

Raffle tickets went on sale from last Friday and can be bought through the Red Cross charity shop in Coleraine and local Red Cross volunteers.

Local shop manager, Kate Irwin, said: “We’ve always had great support from local people, Coleraine businesses and schools and I’d encourage everyone to call in and say hello and buy a ticket at the same time. You might even win a nice prize when the raffle is drawn just before Christmas.”
