‘Sleeping Beauty’ Beccy dreams of puppetry call from Star Wars

A Coleraine actress who is playing the lead role of Sleeping Beauty has revealed her dream of working on the movie block buster Star Wars.

Beccy Henderson,from Macosquin, is currently making her Lyric Theatre debut as Rose in the timeless Christmas classic.

“It’s a really lovely show,” Beccy says,” and I love the role. but Rose is little bit girl-next door.”

24-year-old Beccy will appear in 11 shows a week ay the Belfast theatre until January 4.

The festive show has been written by Derek O’Connor and is directed and choreographed by Deborath Maguire.

Beccy, whose parents live in Macosquin, studied Drama and Ethnomusicology at Queen’s University in Belfast and also trained as a puppeteer with the Jim Henson Company.

And next year she hopes to use her puppeteering skills on the new Star Wars films.

“Nothing has been signed yet so I don’t want to say too much about it at this stage,” she said.

“I’ve always really liked puppets and I went to puppetry workshop a couple of years ago where Victor Yerrid, a very famous puppeteer was looking for an assistant.

“I’m based in Belfast but go to London for work.”

American-bornYerrid is apuppeteer for the Jim Henson Company and has performed Muppet characters in many TV shows, movies, and TV commercials.
