Slideshow: Accolades for ‘selfless’ volunteers
The biennial awards are organised by Newtownabbey Borough Council in association with Volunteer Now.
The ceremony was hosted by broadcaster Claire McCollum, with outgoing Minster for Social Development, Nelson McCausland and the Lord Lieutenant for County Antrim, Joan Christie OBE in attendance.

Hide Ad“I am extremely impressed by the sheer scale and variety of the volunteering activity undertaken in Newtownabbey,” said Mr McCausland. “These volunteers selflessly dedicate their time and abilities to helping others and I am pleased that Newtownabbey Borough Council and its partners have recognised their efforts through the Volunteer Accolades Scheme.
“My Department is committed to building on the excellent work being done in Newtownabbey and beyond. Our Volunteering Strategy empowers local people to contribute to the regeneration and improvement of their communities by strengthening networks and local partnerships and developing and increasing volunteering and active citizenship.
“It is a privilege to see the results of this strategy in action and I congratulate all nominees and winners alike.”
