Tenants set to benefit from £460k gas heating programme

MORE than 120 Housing Executive properties in Ballyclare are to get new gas heating systems as part of a major programme of home improvement works.

The Housing Executive confirmed this week that 126 dwellings in the Grange, Ollardale and Erskine/Rashee estates are to get gas central heating as part of the £460,000 project.

The scheme will involve installation of new gas heating systems in dwellings that do not have oil fired central heating already installed.

It’s understood that work on the project is programmed to commence in November, but the Housing Executive has stressed that the start date is dependant on Firmus Energy having the gas lines and meters installed.

“This scheme is really good news for many of our tenants in Ballyclare as we continue to replace older heating systems with new, modern gas systems, making these homes more energy efficient as well as offering comfort and economy for residents,” said NIHE District Manager, Sharon Crooks.

“The new gas heating systems will be fully programmed and installed to the highest specification, so providing maximum efficiency and economical running costs. The systems are easy to use, with heating and hot water at the press of a switch.”

South Antrim MLA and local councillor, Paul Girvan welcomed the progress being made by Firmus Energy to bring natural gas to Ballyclare.

“This is a very welcome scheme and it is good not only for the Housing Executive tenants who will benefit from new, more efficient heating systems, but also home owners in various areas of the town who will be offered the chance to convert to gas, giving them more choice,” he commented.
