Video - Carbon monoxide leak at Spencer Road

Staff at an orthodontics and popular cafe have been evacuated due to a suspected gas leak.

Emergency services are dealing with a suspected gas leak on Spencer Road.

The road was closed to facilitate fire service personnel as they investigate the report of high levels of gas in the area.

A number of fire crews, ambulance service and PSNI officers were called to the scene.

Several business premises including a dental surgery and the Sandwich Company cafe were evacuated.

A Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service are currently at the scene following a report of a suspected gas leak at the Spencer Road area of Foyle this afternoon, Monday, July.

“The call was received at 12.19pm to a reported smell of gas in the area. Three Fire Appliances from Crescent Link Fire Station are in attendance with partner agencies at the scene.

“There are no further details at this stage and motorists are advised to avoid the area at this time, as the Police Service of Northern Ireland facilitate traffic disruptions in the area.”
