CRICKET: Experienced Donemana side lose Ulster Plate tie

There will be five sides from the NCU and three from the North West in the quarter-final draw of the O'Neills Ulster Plate competition.

Holders Brigade and North Down didn’t have to bowl a ball in anger as Downpatrick and Eglinton couldn’t field teams and scratched.

On the field of play Waringstown beat a highly experienced Donemana side by 91 runs, with Marcus Topping (84*) and Ryan Dennison (60) both scoring half centuries as they posted 206 for 6.

Stuart Kidd then took 3 for 8 as Donemana were dismissed for 115 despite Reece Laird’s 33.

Rishi Chopra and Ben Johnston’s half centuries saw Coleraine post 197-5 at home to Lisburn - that proved 54 too mnay for the Wallace Park side - Chopra taking 3 for 36.

Alex Haggan’s 38 and two wickets saw Carrickfergus beat Fox Lodge by four wickets, while Reece Kelly’s all-round efforts helped Bready defeat Instonians. Ryan Barr hit 48 and Kelly 36 as the Magheramason side chased own 166.

Gary Gillespie’s 58 was in vain for Strabane who lost by four wickets at home to CSNI despite posting 200.

Muckamore proved too strong for Bonds Glen at Moylena dismissing the North West side for 131 after making 208. David Rainey top scored with 65, with Benji Cathcart (37) and Jonathan Gordon (33) also among the runs - Davy Robinson and Richard Cleminson taking three wickets apiece for the Bee Gees.

Aditya Adey’s four wickets put the North West side in a spin and they were never in contention depsite a late 30 from Leslie Curry.

Details of the quarter-final draw date will be announced by Cricket Ireland in due course.
