Double defeat as Garvey girls can’t get the run of dangerous Dungannon

Lisnagarvey Ladies Bowls Club succumbed to Dungannon twice in two days last week as they couldn’t quite match the Tyrone side.

Wednesday was the semi-final of the Wingrave Cup held at Wingrave Club in Belfast but Garvey couldn’t reach the final.

Lisnagarvey faced Dungannon in the other semi-final. Moya McLean’s rink lost 12- 21 to Ann McKiver, Kay McCully’s rink lost 11 - 18 to Ida Eldon but Vera McCourt’s rink won in the last end 14 - 13 against Pauline Mackle.

It was Dungannon’s victory and they now face Newcastle, who beat Ward Park to get to the final, which will be played on Wednesday 3 September.

The next day, Lisnagarvey travelled to Dungannon for their league match but Dungannon proved to be too strong again with all four rinks losing which meant no points for Lisnagarvey.

Those playing were - W. Cameron, H Jess, S Stephenson skipped by Kay McCully versus Ann McKiver.

M Kerr, B Campbell, J Lyness skipped by Moya McLean versus Pauline Mackle.

J Ferguson, G Jeffers, D Smith skipped by Vera McCourt versus Ida Eldon.

J Logan, M Snodden, M Gibson skipped by Nessie Park versus Bernie McGleenan.

There is only one more league match left when Ward Park visit Lisnagarvey on Thurday 4 September.

Then players turn their attention to short mat bowling or bowling at Belfast indoor club.
