The next morning, the Carniny squad took on PSG Academy andgave an excellent account of themselves before succumbing to a 5-3 defeat.

Not too downhearted the boys then headed off to Euro Disney to round off an unbelievable day. On the last day the boys had a relaxing day at the hotel before heading home.

UNDER-15

Carniny sent a team to Southport over the May Bank Holiday weekend to take part in the renowned Southport Super Cup.

The tournament was for those boys in year 11 or under so the under 15s squad were supplemented by three boys in year 11 from the under 16s.

Carniny were certainly not the favourites to win the tournament from the outset as teams such as Glendowan from the Premier Division of the National League, Drumsagard from Glasgow and Sutton Coldfield Town from Birmingham were the pre-tournament favourites, while Carniny’s squad consisted of just 12 players.

The tournament was organised on a league basis in the first instance whereby the eight teams in the tournament would play each other once. The top two would then qualify for the final.

Carniny’s results in the league stage were: Carniny Youth 1, Villa Park 0; Carniny Youth 3, West Hagley 0; Carniny Youth 4, Red Star United 0; Carniny Youth 1, Sutton Coldfield Town 0; Carniny Youth 0, Drumsagard 0; Carniny Youth 1, Glendowan 1; Carniny Youth 1, Beith Juniors 0.

With the Ballymena boys shattered, it took all the motivational skills of coaches McGall and McComb to get the boys ready for the final against Glaswegian side Drumsagard but they produced a heroic display with Tyrone Balmer scoring a hat-trick in a 3-0 win.

* Back home, goals from Andrew Adams, Thomas Campbell, SImon Evans and Rhys O’Mullan gave the under-15s a 4-0 win over Ballymoor in their final league game to ensure a very crediatble fifth placed finish.
