Slane are currently at the summit of the Mid-Ulster Intermediate B division table but have played more games than all the sides chasing them.

Saturday’s defeat was their heaviest of the season so far and Johnstone says their mistakes must be eradicated for their trip to Bourneview Mill on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 2.15pm).

“I’m totally frustrated after we have yet again given soft goals away and failed to take our chances,” he said after Saturday’s loss to Richill.

“I will not offer up excuses or look to deflect anything away from a shambolic display of defending in first half. The continual mistakes, particularly by defenders week in week out is just not good enough.

“That said for the last three games neither of our two main strikers have scored and that gives me cause for concern as well. The buck stops with me but some of the players need to man up and take responsibility for their performances.

“Again the opponents did not play better than us in open play. Even with 10 men we had long spells on top, created chances but mistakes gifted goals.

“We have conceded 14 goals in the league in eight games and with the exception of the two against Valley Rangers. every one of the other 12 have been individual mistakes and that is criminal at any level of football. This must stop.

“Next week is now a significant game as we must get back on track.”
