Four wins out of four for Carniny

CARNINY Youth sides recorded four wins out of four with the remaining teams in action who survived the inclement weather at the tail end of last week.

The under-16s put in a good team performance to beat Grosvenor 3-1 as the senior side got back to winning ways beating Tobermore United Reserves 4-0.

Carniny 2, Glenavon 1: Carniny kicked off their National League Cup campaign with a good hard fought win against Glenavon Youth at Ballykeel.

From the start Carniny were applying the pressure, and on ten minutes after a great run down the left Adam Mairs crossed to find Matthew Shevlin who scored his 18th of the season so far.

After going in front, Carniny continued to keep the pressure on with efforts from Mairs, Millar and Shevlin all going close. Glenavon started to come into near the end of the half, but the back four of McCullough, Harwood, Rowe and McDonnell limited them to very few chances.

Midway through the second half, a clearance from the impressive Stuarty McCullough bounced awkwardly for the Glenavon defence, and pressure from Camryn Millar saw him slot home Carniny`s second.

At 2-0, Carniny looked comfortable for the win, but Glenavon pulled one back with a brilliant free-kick from twenty-five yards. Glenavon had a few more chances but Carniny`s goalkeeper Owen Marquess made a couple of comfortable saves, for the under-12 to see out the win.

Carniny: Marquess, McCullough, Rowe, Harwood, McDonnell, Mairs, Feeney, Fyfe, Sharp, Millar, Shevlin.

Carniny 6, Larne Youth 0: The under-15s took in their first home match of the year with an excellent second performance hitting Larne for six last Saturday.

The boys in red started sluggishly in the first half playing with the wind on their backs, but for all their possession they lacked sharpness and that final touch so ended up with nothing to show for their efforts at the break with Larne containing any opportunities the boys created.

In the second half however they came out more determined and ten minutes in Craig Todd crossed in from the right hand goal line to give Zach Barr a simple tap in for their first.

This was all the boys needed to get them going and minutes later they doubled their lead when Barr got his second when he fired high into the top left hand corner.

Barr was involved again with the third goal when he worked with Jake Carson on the left flank for Carson to score a similar shot to the keepers left. Carniny never let up from then on in with Barr getting his hat trick minutes later and Carson got his second with another low driven shot from the left side.

The hardworking Mark McKelvey completed the scoring with some silky skills when he collected the ball on the edge of the box and weaved his way past the Larne defenders to score from eight yards out.

Grosvenor had a chance but the excellent Boyd made a great save with Carniny's Moore and Scullion both having chances squandered as the half ended scoreless.

Grosvernor came out in the second half and pinned Carniny in their own half for about 10 minutes but the Carniny lads showed great spirit and determination and this paid off when Waring sent Moore clear and he chipped the keeper to open the scoring.

Armstrong then came on for Lilley and the midfield of Carniny started to boss the proceedings and when the ball broke to the determined McIlveen, his 30 yard shot found the top corner of the net to make the score 2-0.

It was Grosvenor who scored next against the run of play to make the score 2-1 with ten minutes to go but the Carniny lads battled hard and earned a free kick, McWhirter took and found Kernohan and his header went in the top corner 3-1 to Carniny.
